Why My Hot Flashes and Anxiety Finally Got Better

why my hot flashes and anxiety finally got better

There was no way I could live like this—racing thoughts, sudden waves of heat, sleepless nights, and the constant feeling that something wasn’t quite right. But everything changed when I committed to a regular yoga and meditation practice—and truly gave it all over to God.

The Symptoms That Took Over

It all started the month before my 45th birthday. I had been through a hard couple of years, and the grief of losing my niece had pushed me further into a state of stress and trauma. That’s when the hot flashes started—waking me up at night, interrupting my day, and always triggered by anxious thoughts. I couldn’t believe how often I was having those thoughts until the heat made them impossible to ignore.

The exhaustion was overwhelming. You can’t control it, and worse, you can’t control your thoughts. My anxiety would spiral, sometimes turning into agitation or depression that lasted for days.

I tried a lot. Acupuncture helped temporarily. Chiropractic care didn’t make much of a difference. I was hesitant to try hormone therapy after seeing what my mom went through. Antidepressants took the edge off, but the flashes still came—especially during moments of stress. I had also stopped getting my period and assumed it was just perimenopause. But the connection between my thoughts and my symptoms was too clear to ignore. I knew I had to keep going, to keep rewiring my brain and healing from the inside out.

The Shift to Yoga + Meditation

Eventually, I made a major life decision: I quit my job. The stress had become too much, and I chose to pursue my long-time dream of teaching yoga full time. That choice gave me the space I needed to recommit to my own healing.

I leaned into my practice—especially Yin Yoga, Somatic Movement, and meditation. These slower, more mindful styles allowed me to redirect the energy I had spent obsessively thinking and doing. I began letting go and learning to feel again.

Breathwork and stillness became a daily part of my life. I shifted out of my head and into my body. I stopped trying to figure everything out and started placing more trust in God.

Over time, I saw a difference. The more I breathed, the more I trusted. My mindset began to shift. I stopped seeing myself as a victim and started seeing all around me as good. And then something powerful happened: a year and a half after the flashes had started, they stopped waking me up at night. It was the first time in over a year that I could sleep peacefully.

The Results

Today, my hot flashes are almost entirely gone.

I rarely feel anxious anymore. My thoughts are calmer, more spacious. My body feels stronger. My sleep has improved. My mood is more

balanced. I’m not just “managing” my symptoms—I’m actually healing.

And most importantly, I feel like I’ve come home to myself.

Why This Matters

If you’re reading this and thinking, “That’s me,”—I want you to know that you are not alone.

Millions of women deal with anxiety, stress, and hormonal shifts that affect every part of their lives. And while there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, I believe in the power of natural healing. Through movement, meditation, mindfulness, and most of all, faith, we can rewire our minds and reconnect to our bodies.

Yoga isn’t just exercise. It’s medicine for the nervous system. It’s space to feel, to let go, and to trust again.

I’m coming up on my 47th birthday—and I feel better than I have in years.

If you’re struggling with anxiety, stress, or hormonal shifts, you’re not alone.

I’m living proof that healing is possible.

Yoga and meditation helped me reclaim my body—and I believe they can help you too.
