When Relationships Hurt: Why Community — and Movement — Matter

Let’s be real — relationships are hard. When they aren’t working, it can feel nearly impossible to enjoy life, let alone focus on work.

This week I had a difficult time with my youngest son, and I allowed myself to get pulled into a dark place. It was a reminder to remain vigilant: evil is always lurking, and it will even try to use our closest relationships to knock us off course. What I valued more than anything was that, even as the owner of The Well, I could lean into this amazing community for prayer, support, and reminders of what was true and what were lies.

I was hurt, and I quickly began believing lies about myself — the lie that I wasn’t a good mom, the lie that I wasn’t capable or enough. The truth — that I am a good mother and a smart, successful woman — felt distant and hard to remember. I fell into that dark place fast. But with your help and God’s presence, I pulled myself back up.

Moving and breathing felt incredible. It reminded me that even gentle movement can shift our energy and help us rise more quickly from a depressive episode.

I am so grateful for this community. As we near our one-year anniversary, I see how far I’ve come — and how much I still need this circle of people. If you’re in a hard season, please don’t walk through it alone. Reach out. Ask for prayer. Come to a class. Let someone sit with you while you breathe.

Have a peaceful rest of your weekend. Remember: we all need support.

With gratitude,
Kellie

P.S. Here is a seated somatic practice you can use to awaken to let go!
